What is working environment?

A safe, healthy, and sustainable working environment is characterized by everyone being able to thrive and develop with the support of the community. It takes into account different life and work conditions and is built on respect for diversity. Such a working environment is essential for both employee and organizational development – and, not least, for strengthening the sense of workplace community.

Areas of the Working Environment

The working environment can be divided into three main areas: physical, chemical-biological and organizational-social working environment.

The physical working environment encompasses the design of work spaces and workstations, as well as working conditions such as ergonomics, noise, lighting, and accident risks.

The chemical-biological working environment is a special part of the physical working environment, focusing on exposure to chemical or biological substances and materials that may pose a health risk during work.

The organizational-social working environment covers aspects such as perceived workload, employee involvement, collegial relationships, and the overall experience of the work community, which are important for employees' security, motivation, and well-being.

Despite these divisions, the working environment should be viewed holistically, reflecting our efforts for a good working environment.
